Temperature today: 90C and climbing
Today a sitting US Senator from California, Alex Padilla, was removed from a press conference being held by Kristi Noem, forcibly detained and handcuffed. This is an incredible outrage; it is also a crime and the officers and agents responsible should be arrested. They lied after the fact that they did not know who he was, thought he might be an attacker, etc. Except that he had identified himself as a US Senator, he was in a federal building, and he was being escorted while in the building.
We have had a very large number of reasons to feel rage, and here is another — a step too far, an unthinkable (previously) overstep, for which as yet not one Republican, as far as I know, has apologized or expressed any appropriate outrage.
I hope this will only bring more people out on Saturday; we need enormous numbers.
I am so mad about this that I can’t really write about anything else, or talk about strategies for resistance as I was planning to.
But I also saw this video, detailing how eighteen Democratic senators voted to advance a bill to “regulate” cryptocurrency, not for the benefit of most Americans or most consumers, and which among other things will allow Trump to directly profit from crypto ventures while in office. They are listed in the video, and I was surprised and horrified at some of the names. I need to read more about the bill, but as of now I doubt I can support any of them again — and there are those with national aspirations.
There is much we need to do and I’ll talk more about those tomorrow.
