Temperature today: 80C It is taking longer than I expected (feared?) but we are slowly getting cooked.

Over the next week or so I am going to start over trying to make sense of what is going on. It is now June 5 and since I last posted on May 30 there has been plenty of news….but more than that it seems to me that the “progress” of the administration is accompanied by a parallel evolution in the thinking of those of us on the left, and there is a feeling that we are increasingly making some sense of what is going on and starting to build a coherent narrative.

In this case, a coherent narrative means keeping multiple key truths alive and well in our thinking. Trump is both evil and increasingly mentally incompetent (note that dementia affects some abilities more than others; he’s not so great on cognition and focus but he’s totally on top of the evil). He directs some things and appears to be completely clueless about others. Some things he has taken pride in (nominating judges) appear to have been orchestrated by others who did not really keep him in the loop. There is steady progress in corrupting the government in every possible way, including threatening judges, but judges are still holding them in check.

A couple of nuggets for today: Sheldon Whitehouse (Senator from RI) has put together a story in which the Koch organization really was behind the judges put forward by the Federalist Society, and Leonard Leo was really just the messenger.

“Parkrose Permaculture” has some interesting thoughts on Trump voters and on impeachment proceedings.
