Memorial Day is about gratitude

Temperature today: 60C Maybe everyone takes a holiday today; back on our guard tomorrow.

Happy Memorial Day!  This is a day of mixed feelings, so I am going with gratitude.

I am going to start with the members of the armed services, especially those who gave their lives for our country.  We honor your memory and are forever in your debt.

To Bruce Springsteen for openly criticizing and defying Donald Trump.

To those loudly and publicly standing up for democracy:  Representative Jasmine Crockett, Representative Jamie Raskin, Representative Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Senator Chris Murphy, Senator Bernie Sanders.  There are numerous others of whom we hear less who are still doing important work.

To Judge Hannah Dugan of Wisconsin, who was shamefully arrested on the flimsiest of grounds.

To Representative LaMonica McIver, who was arrested on fabricated charges as a consequence of doing her constitutional duty.

All of these people are holding the line against government that wants to be fascist, has little use for the Constitution, and engages in nearly nonstop criminal conduct.

I do not know how to directly contact most of these people, but I am going to write or email as I am able.

There are many others whom I have not heard of or whom I do not have time to list.  Thank you all, and we are going to thank you publicly when we get the chance.

This day we can resolve to stop those who disrespect veterans and dishonor their memories, who sully everything they touch, and who threaten our public servants and our democracy.
