Temperature: 60C
Today marks the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride. It seems like a good day to mark the level of resistance and the increasing calls for action — even an uprising — along with the increasing level of tyranny.
My goal here is to give you a quick glance at the daily “temperature”. Basically, when the thermometer reaches 100C, your body should be in Washington DC along with millions of your compatriots, because the need will be absolutely critical. There is far too much to read and listen to; I want to provide a useful update at a glance.
I will also have summaries and/or links to news items that I think are important, and likely some longer “viewpoints”.
What’s going on today: The big news right now is about Kilmar Abrego García, the implication that any American citizen can be seized and deported permanently and without due process, and the scathing ruling by Judge Wilkinson of the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Also important but less in the news are US bombing of Houthi sites in Yemen, the Project 2025 goal of firing 50,000 federal workers and eliminating dissent among the workforce, and increasing levels of dissent, including David Brooks’ call for a nationwide uprising, and this billboard in Albuquerque, where Trump took a wrong turn.
Listen, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-Five:
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
